News on Ebola

The ISN leadership, together with the organizing committee of the WCN 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa (SA), are closely monitoring the situation of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

The outbreak is limited to just 3 West Africa countries, which are over 5,000 kilometers (3,000 miles) away from South Africa and South Africa remains free of Ebola infection.

Included in this update is an official statement from the SA Government related to measurements taken to ensure containment of the virus (should that eventuality arise) (click here to download), as well as the current travel restrictions to SA from countries where the virus has struck (click here to download). You will note that travellers from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone are considered high risk and are not permitted to enter SA. Strict screening procedures are in place for those countries considered to be medium risk (those in the vicinity of the outbreak area).

Our immediate concern is with those from the affected region who may not be able to travel to the congress. It is our sincere hope that the situation will have improved within the next months to allow them to attend.

In line with advice from WHO and other authorities, we currently are very confident to conclude that there is no reason whatsoever to be concerned about traveling to South Africa at this point. Updates will be communicated through ISN’s channels. For questions, please contact the ISN event team.
