The ISN 0by25 AKI Initiative has matured into its intervention and implementation phase with the Kidney Care Network, a project which focuses on locally-led education and training in five LMIC sites to achieve sustainable, affordable improvement in routine AKI detection and management.

Launched in July 2017, the Kidney Care Network project tests if the successful intervention from the Pilot Feasibility Study can become a part of routine care in low- and middle-income countries, and achieve sustainable, locally-led improvement in AKI detection and management. The Kidney Care Network is being carried out across five project sites in Bolivia, Brazil, Malawi, South Africa and Nepal. KCN imageThese sites employ education and training in AKI care, given by local experts and in full collaboration with local institutions, to improve the standard of care in AKI detection and management in a way that is appropriate and sustainable in the local setting. Local experts train all relevant healthcare workers at the sites, using educational materials evaluated as successful during the Pilot Feasibility Study.

ISN will collect data to measure the impact of this implementation project, and support centers when engaging with local health authorities to seek their support and ensure interventions proposed become part of normal clinical care in the long term. Once achieved for AKI, the project aims to expand to CKD and ESKD.
